BECAUSE I BEGAN WORKING AS A COMMUNITY ARTIST IN RESIDENCE STRAIGHT OUT OF COLLEGE (a miracle that amazes me still) I learned almost immediately how to write a press release and prepare for an interview. This was a skill set that has served me well throughout my life as an artist and community person.

Through the fluke of a wrong number, I was able to secure an article with the New York Times about an exhibit I was presenting in 1984 in North Carolina. The writer was surprised that he had dialed the wrong organization's number but I was just grateful! I have had good support from the press in general and I try to be open and enthusiastic whenever they come calling. My work doesn't happen in a vacuum and it doesn't gain recognition there either.
